Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge Adventures

Overview

The Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge covers 143,954 acres of Everglades and has been serving as a habit for wildlife and endangered species since 1951. Explore 5.5 miles of waterways and immerse yourself in a cypress solitude of beautiful sawgrass marsh, vibrant local wildlife and the natural environment of one of the state’s best hidden gems. Explore the history and nature of the real Florida everglades.

Travel the 5.5-mile protected waterway by kayak or canoe. Paddle through four distinct marsh communities including sloughs, wet prairies, sawgrass ridges, and tree islands which provide refuge for migratory birds and waterfowl. When kayaking and canoeing through the everglades, the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge Adventures recommends bringing drinking water, sunscreen, a rain poncho, lip balm, waterproof camera, and binoculars. Kayaking or canoeing through the entire 5.5 miles of everglades usually takes between three and four hours to complete. Otherwise, kayak or canoe through The Needle course which takes about an hour in length.

See amazing animals and protected wildlife including over 250 different species of birds, 20 mammals,15 amphibians, and 5 reptiles. Observe animals such as fish, turtles, birds, deer, bobcats, Cuban tree frogs, raccoons, armadillos, snakes and alligators on an eco-tour through the everglades. Go deeper into the everglades with a Jon boat rental. Relax and enjoy a day fishing in the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge. More than 40 species of fish live in the refuge including largemouth bass, channel catfish, black crappie, bowfin, redear sunfish, chain pickerel, blue tilapia, and butterfly peacock bass. Fish from a Jon boat, off the banks of the refuge or the local fishing pier. Hike or peddle almost 50 miles through the refuge’s nature trails. Rent a bicycle and share the trails with hikers, horseback riders, and pet walkers. See rare and protected species of plants.

Located in the Palm Beaches, enter the refuge through the Boynton Beach entrance for your everglades adventure.
